Would you like to be a Greenway Volunteer?

The Volunteer Programme at Greenway Women's Centre is an excellent way to meet new people, build confidence and self esteem and to develop new skills.

In return for their time and commitment, volunteers receive support, encouragement, free role-based training and, where applicable, a work-based reference.

Volunteering opportunities are currently available in many areas, including Childcare, Drop-In Café and Reception.

Benefits of Volunteering

Take on a challenge
Getting involved in something new can be a real challenge. Volunteering can help you achieve your personal goals, develop new skills and practice your talents. Sometimes a volunteer experience can lead you to something you never even thought about, or help you to discover a hobby or interest you were unaware of.

Be part of your community
Volunteering can help build stronger communities and improve services and resources in your local area.

Meet new people
Getting invloved as a volunteer will allow you to meet lots of different kinds of people and make new friends.

Gain a sense of wellbeing
Research demonstrates that volunteering can lead to better health (Health Benefits of Volunteering: A Review of recent research, Washington DC 2007).

Increase Personal Development
If you are thinking about career development, about getting a job or returning to work, the experience you gain as a volunteer can be useful.

Have fun
Volunteering is an excellent leisure activity. Most volunteers get great enjoyment from what they do - that's why they keep on doing it! Finding new interests and hobbies can be fun, relaxing and energising.

Volunteering is a two-way process; as a volunteer you will have your own motivations and reasons for getting involved and a good volunteer organisation will ask you about those motivations and try to meet your needs as well as their own.

Quotes from Greenway Volunteers:

"I really enjoy the company - volunteering is a great way to meet people and make new friends"

"Volunteering is really interesting and it's a great way to meet new people. Volunteering is fun and I always look forward to coming to Greenway"

"I was suffering from panic attacks and depression when my daughter suggested volunteering at Greenway. I was nervous at first because I didn't know what to expect, but I was determined to give it a try - anything to get me out of the house! Everyone was very nice and I quickly settled in to my role in the Drop-In. I took some classes and learned new skills and I still keep in touch with all the friends I've made over the years"
